THE CAMPAIGN

The 1000 Flowers for Peace is a mental-health and environmental awareness initiative that collaborates with afterschool programs and Children’s Peace Day to engage youth in conflict-resolution and peacebuilding activities. It uses flower bulbs to suggest the way that such efforts can grow and multiply.

As part of the program, participants will dig up the bulbs in subsequent years, split them, and plant them at other gardens around the city to spread peace messages – all while beautifying our city and engaging youths in working on environmental issues, conflict resolution, leadership and peacebuilding.

1000 Flowers for Peace is a project of Adapt International, a nonprofit organization founded and directed by Amineh Ayyad. The project builds on previous peacebuilding initiatives and youth development programs developed by Amineh, including the Middle East Peace sculpture and Children's Peace Day initiative. Please view the short documentary below to learn more about the story behind this work.

On Children’s Peace Day, October 23, 2010, children and community members planted 1000 flower bulbs at the Peace Garden in Seattle, WA. On April 5, 2011 we will celebrate the first blooms; on that day, youth will come together to share on the program and community & peace building work.  City and community leaders will join them in support and celebration of their achievements and aspirations.
The project is mainly organized and run by volunteers.

Our work to promote healthy youth can't be done without our dedicated partners and the support of people like you.

Looking so much forward to seeing you and to working with you.

In peace and community,
